Acropolis Institute of Technology & Research, Indore participated in “MAHINDRA SPONSORED BAJA SAEINDIA 2016” event held from 17th February to 21th February, 2016 at National Automotive testing tracks (NATRAX), Pithampur. This national event is organized by Society of Automotive Engineers, India (SAEINDIA) every year since 2006. The BAJA SAEINDIA competition challenges teams of University undergraduate students to conceive, design, fabricate and complete with their own off-road All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). The BAJA SAEINDIA organizing committee gives maximum design flexibility and freedom to participating team to demonstrate their creativity and imaginations.Mechanical Engineering Department of AITR also participated in BAJA SAEINDIA 2016. A team of 25 student members of (final year, third year and second year) was constituted along with faculty advisors:Prof. Tapan Jain and Prof. Alok K. Khore
The competition conducted in two phases:
- Virtual BAJA: The design of the BAJA ATV parts and assembly was carried out along with the analysis on CAD/ CAE tools available in house. The entire design was analysed for failures as per the constraints of the rule book. The styling and designing was carried out using CATIA, Pro-Engineer and analysis tool ANSYS. The design of the ATV was then presented for Virtual round.
There were approximately 600 teams participated from all over the country. Out of them 171 teams cleared the virtual round and selected for final event. AITR team (named Acro streak) was among the 171 teams.
- Final Event: In final event the selected teams were required to convert the approved design into an actual prototype of the vehicle. There were 171 teams for this final event and 11 teams from Madhya Pradesh. In all, 126 cars including us could qualify technically for endurance test.
The event started on 17th February 2016 with Engine testing and Technical Inspection of participating ATV’s. The Acro streak ATV got chance on 18th February for the engine checks which it cleared successfully. There were few minor points indicated by inspectors for the safety purpose of the vehicles. On 19th February, 2016 the team cleared the technical test. The weight of Acro streak ATV was 253.4 kg unladen, which was found to be on little higher side as compared to other vehicles.
This project of BAJA 2016 ‘Acro streak’ was majorly sponsored by the institute. The team was also sponsored by M/s. Patwa Motors, M/s. Patel Motors, Indore, DCS, Indore and Technoknight – Acro technical club. The department expresses sincere thanks to the Management and sponsors for their genuine support and trust.
