**Temporary CPA (Bookkeeping + Tax Optimization)** **Location:** Walnut Creek **Compensation:** $75-$90 per hour DOE **Assignment Duration:** Approximately 1-2 weeks **Schedule:** Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm **Target Tax Years:** 2023, 2024, and 2025 **About the Opportunity** We are seeking a detail-oriented Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to join our team for a short-term assignment. This engagement involves comprehensive support across bookkeeping, accounting, and tax optimization for a growing digital marketing company operating across multiple states. This project-based role that requires an experienced professional capable of working independently and communicating complex tax matters with clarity. **Key Responsibilities** **Tax Review & Compliance** - Review and refine the chart of accounts for accurate classification of revenue and expenses - Validate depreciation and amortization schedules in line with tax regulations - Assess the deductibility of marketing-related expenses, including large media spends and influencer payments - Ensure compliance with Section 174 requirements for capitalizing R&D expenses related to in-house tech or analytics **Accounting, Bookkeeping & Strategy** - Provide hands-on bookkeeping to support accurate and timely financial reporting - Offer advisory on entity structure for tax efficiency (LLC, S-Corp, etc.) - Calculate and advise on quarterly estimated tax payments (federal and multi-state) - Evaluate eligibility for and assist with R&D tax credits - Advise on growth-related compliance including W-2 vs. 1099 worker classification and multi-state tax obligations **Client Communication & Representation** - Clearly explain tax positions, especially those involving capitalized expenses or R&D credits - Support responses to IRS and state tax authority inquiries, including audits or notices - Help ensure consistency between GAAP and tax accounting - Remain current with federal and California-specific tax law updates **Required Qualifications** - Active CPA license (preferred) - Minimum 3-5 years of experience in accounting, tax preparation, and bookkeeping - Strong understanding of tax planning, R&D credits, and small business compliance - Experience with digital marketing or tech companies is a plus - Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and tax platforms **Pay Details:** $75.00 to $90.00 per hour Benefit offerings available for our associates include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, additional voluntary benefits, EAP program, commuter benefits and a 401K plan.
