Lead Web Developer / Front-End Team Lead

Direct Hire | Remote w/Meetings on-site Tidewater VA

Full-Time | Remote Role with Occasional In-Person Collaboration (VA Tidewater area or Richmond Preferred)

A growing digital-focused organization is looking for a Lead Web Developer/Designer to oversee and execute a wide range of website projects. This is a hands-on position ideal for a senior-level developer who thrives on clean code, strong user experience, and close collaboration with creative and marketing teams with a variety of clients.

You’ll be responsible for guiding web development from planning through launch, partnering with a small technical team and stakeholders across design and strategy. This role also involves mentoring a junior developer, shaping development processes, and driving performance and SEO improvements across various web platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead front-end development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and component-based frameworks such as Svelte/SvelteKit
  • Integrate content management systems (CMS), including headless and traditional platforms, via RESTful and GraphQL APIs
  • Maintain and enhance existing websites built on legacy CMS platforms
  • Collaborate with design teams to ensure faithful, high-quality implementation of UI designs
  • Optimize websites for load speed, accessibility, search engines, and overall performance
  • Deploy websites using modern hosting tools and infrastructure
  • Establish coding best practices and provide technical mentorship to junior developers
  • Troubleshoot cross-browser and cross-platform issues
  • Stay current with development trends and bring forward innovative solutions
  • Work alongside marketing and analytics teams to support tracking and data-driven initiatives

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a front-end development role, preferably in a fast-paced or agency-style environment
  • Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and front-end frameworks
  • Familiarity with content management systems, especially those that use headless architecture
  • Utilized Web APIs, server-side concepts, and database interactions
  • Experience working with legacy platforms such as WordPress, including customization and plugin use
  • Solid grasp of responsive design and UX/UI best practices
  • Proficiency in version control systems like Git and deployment workflows
  • Self-starter with excellent troubleshooting and prioritization skills

Preferred Experience

  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and performance optimization
  • Experience with A/B testing platforms and analytics integration
  • Exposure to marketing concepts such as conversion optimization and landing page design
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver data-informed enhancements
