Plant Trait Scientist

Location: St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Key responsibilities:

• Mine, generate, and interpret both public and internal data to make informed gene target nominations• Combine skillsets from several of the following - plant development, plant genetics, plant breeding, bioinformatics, and/or gene editing to deliver trait candidates and generate detailed proof of technology plans for their testing

• Working with the team and hands-on in the lab, generate transgenic plants using conventional DNA integration or genome editing approaches

• Advance tools and methods to ensure proper delivery of proof-of-concepts for both genome editing and biotech traits

• Through excellent communication and interpersonal skills collaborate productively with multiple scientific teams across disciplines and cultures

• Stay informed and up to date with new trait developments reported by both academic institutions and industry

• Prepare technical scientific reports and presentations

• Communicate effectively with relevant scientific and non-scientific stakeholders

• Follow Quality Management and Stewardship SOPs

Required qualifications:

• PhD in Plant Biology, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Biology, Plant Biochemistry, Plant Genetics or a related field plus 3+ years of relevant trait engineering experience. Prior industry experience is preferred. Candidates with less experience post-degree may be considered for Scientist I level on a case-by-case basis.

• Strong knowledge of plant physiology and/or plant development at the whole plant and molecular levels. Familiarity with plant responses to biotic and abiotic stress is a plus

• Demonstrated ability to independently design, conduct, and interpret experiments including the use of appropriate statistical methods

• Hands-on experience with genome editing is desirable

• Ability to work independently to lead projects, as well as to productively contribute to team projects

• Ability and willingness to embrace flexibility and to work productively in a fast-changing environment
