Each one of us is gifted and each one of us has a different set of hidden talents. “Yavnika” -Hobby club is an excellent avenue to unwrap these natural gifts & discover our potentials, polish them, embellish them and be a proud beholder of many skills. It’s not about how smart you are, it’s all about how you are smart. Hobby Club draws its inspiration from the Multiple Intelligence faction of the ‘The Eclectic Approach’.

The focus of these club activities is primarily to help the students explore their hidden talents in activities that range from personal cultural hobbies to technical interest. The ‘Hobby Club’ not only helps to bring out the potential of the students but also fosters development in areas such as personality development and inculcating in the students the spirit of learning together. We intend to make students smarter the way they already are. Each individual has a different permutation and combination of the different intelligences he/she possess.

In today’s world, the pressures and demands on students are phenomenal. Pressure of exams, peer pressure, parental pressure and pressure for career results in tension among the students. This stress prevents them from performing skillful actions which in turn deprives them of the results that they deserve to achieve. For reducing stress, the Hobby Club provides an answer. Hobby is focusing attention on a single thought to the exclusion of all other thoughts under the supervision of the intellect.

Although for a Gyani, Hobby culminates in realizing one’s “True Self,” but at the level of the students, help the children to quiet their strained minds by asking them to focus their attention on their creativity and innovative thoughts, instead of thinking about the events of the day or their future plans. The entire session helps them to relax and be in the present. If the children learn to do selfless actions with love and compassion for all and work towards a higher ideal in life, Club activities would help them to realize their true potential!
According to the Collins Thesaurus the word ‘creative’ has a number of synonyms such as imaginative, artistic, ingenious, original, productive, inspired and inventive. The word ‘expression’ too has synonyms like statement, demonstration, manifestation, verbalization, communication and exhibition.
True to its name, the club has students who are given a platform to exhibit and verbalize their imagination, originality and artistic talents, through a number of activities.  Every student could eagerly and enthusiastically participates in each activity and expresses him/ her beautifully. The students’ talents are sharpened and polished and their creativity is brought to the fore and blooms afresh.
The ‘Yavnika – Hobby Club’ which raises the curtain from the innovative mind of the students, is conducted under the active supervision of the institution by Club committee in the respective fields.
Goal:-
Engaging in a hobby leads to acquiring substantial skills, knowledge and experience. The objective of the Hobby Clubs is to inspire students to pursue a hobby and explore their potential in areas like dance, music, theatre, photography, painting, gardening, etc. The committee shall work towards encouraging student participation in recreational activities, thus providing an opportunity for networking, team-building and personality development.
Scope:-
The following are the scopes that the committee aims to accomplish in every academic year:
  •         Initiate activities such as Music, Dance, and Dramatics, Photography, Painting etc.
  •         Conducting training programs for Dance, Drama and Music

About SPIC MACAY

SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) is a voluntary non-profit movement founded in the year 1977 by dedicated academicians and students. It seeks to conserve and promote Indian culture and introduce the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry to the youth of this country. Through focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy, SPICMACAY seeks to facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler meaning and values. Classical Indian music and dance carry with them generations of wisdom dating back to antiquity. We hope that the beauty, grace and wisdom embodied in them will become an integral part of a student’s life and inspire them to become a better humanbeing.

Presently SPIC MACAY has more than 300 chapters in India and abroad. In the year 2012-13, over 7000 programs were organized in the country.  In order to achieve its goals, SPIC MACAY organizes lecture -demonstrations, workshops and intensives, in various educational institutes, schools, and colleges. We also conduct Baithaks, Virasat, week-long Fests, Conventions and Talks which introduce students to several young and upcoming artistes who perform along with the senior artistes. Held all over India, these programs give students an opportunity to witness insightful performances and workshops in folk and classical arts, literature, crafts, talks, theatre, cinema and yoga and more importantly, informally interact with maestros like Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma (Santoor), Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia(Flute), Pt. Birju Maharaj(Kathak),  Smt. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (Hindustani Vocal), Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt(Mohan veena), Smt. Teejan Bai(Pandavani), to name a few.  We have a Gurukul Scholarship Scheme that provides opportunities to aspiring Shishyas to live for a month with ‘Gurus’ who have dedicated their life to their art forms, be it literature, religion or traditional medicine.  The rapport thus created helps the student develop a wholesome understanding of not only the art form but also the artiste as a practitioner of a certain way of life.

III SPIC MACAY Concert

Flute Recital: Shri Rupak Kulkarni (Mumbai)

SPIC MACAY affirms a multifaceted cultural and artistic heritage. SPIC MACAY seeks to promote an awareness of rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst youth everywhere through active participation in Indian classical music and arts, and discovery of their deeper and subtler values.

The movement incorporates the vitality of young people to cajole them into being custodians of this heritage. It seeks to provoke thought and a genuine spirit of enquiry in the young. It emphasizes aesthetics and sensitivity in an increasingly mundane and unquestioning world. Thus its work is educational in spirit and character and locates itself in educational institutions only.

One such attempt was showcased at Acropolis, on 16th Oct’15 by Shri Rupak Kulkarni.

As a child prodigy with music blown into his breath by his father late Pt. Malhar Rao Kulkarni, Shri Rupak Kulkarni,  has blossomed under the finest tutelage of flute legend Padma Vibhushan Pt. HARIPRASAD CHAURASIA to become an outstanding exponent of MAIHAR GHARANA. As a first GANDA BANDH Shagird of Pt. Chaurasia since the tender age of 9, Shri Rupak with arduous training and hard work has mastered Dhrupad, Khayal and Tantrakari

Shri Rupak Kulkarni, has given “Maihar Gharana” tradition with his unique sensuality and creativity. He  has recreated ragas, has written compositions through the flute and his flute reminds us, of the sensuality,  of the Krishna on flute, mesmerizing his Gopis.

At the performance he was at his best along with Mr. Sapan Anjaria at Tabla and his disciple Mr. Sutar on flute. His recital had a rare combination of Dhrupad and Khayal Gayaki, melodious Aalap and scintillating Tatkar (Tonguing technique used for Jhala) innovative improvisation with mesmerizing Layakari, superb breath control and dexterous finger work.

No wonder his concert took the breath of not only music lovers but even by connoisseurs and music maestros. He was lauded by all present in the auditorium.I would conclude saying Shri Kulkarni is simply an age-old master of music disguised as a much younger artiste.

The program was conducted under the Yavnika hobby club. Ms. Sumitra Joshi hosted the program. Dr. Kamal Bharani welcomed the guest. Prof. Gaurav Chaitanya, the co-ordinator of chapter proposed the vote of thanks.
